9 tips to having a healthy Valentine’s Day

Show your partner you care by treating them to a healthy Valentine’s Day that’s full of thoughtful gifts and activities!
Every year millions of people splash out on sweet treats, takeaways, and high-in-sugar drinks for their loved ones. Although tasty, these gifts can contribute to health risks like blood clots, obesity, high blood pressure, and tooth decay. But we can change that and make Valentine’s Day a day for caring about you and your partner’s health and wellbeing. Here’s a few ideas to get you going:
- Gift your partner something healthy: fruity gifts often get overlooked. But what could be more pear-fect than a delicious fruit basket?
- Cook a romantic meal at home: cooking at home can help you to know exactly what’s going into the dish, help control your portion sizes, and gives you a chance to impress your date with your culinary talent.
- Go for a walk in the countryside: not only will it be beneficial for your fitness levels, but it also makes great quality time with your partner to have a good natter.
- Stay hydrated: water is key for a body to function properly – especially if you’re drinking alcohol. So keep those glasses topped up!
- Get up and have a boogie: dancing is fantastic for getting your heart pumping, improving strength and coordination, and it’s tremendous fun for all those involved.
- Treat your loved one to breakfast in bed: why not try scrambled egg on wholemeal toast or porridge with a drizzle of honey, both healthy dishes that will brighten your partner’s morning.
- Strengthen your bond with yoga: couple’s yoga can help reduce anxiety and stress, and it’s great for increasing communication and trust between you and your partner.
- Swap up your snack selection: if you’re planning a film night with plenty of snacks think twice about what munchies you choose. Instead of the high-in-salt crisps opt for lightly salted popcorn or carrot sticks and hummus.
- Write each other gratitude letters: let your partner know what they do that you’re grateful for. Practicing gratitude can improve psychological health, improve sleep and build stronger relationships. At the end of the day, who doesn’t love to be told why they’re appreciated!
